LINCOLN, NE – Today, Governor Jim Pillen partnered with state senator Ben Hansen to introduce legislation aimed at making Nebraska more competitive in the name, image, and likeness (NIL) space.

LINCOLN, NE – Today, Governor Jim Pillen issued Executive Order 24-2 to produce and preserve electricity in the face of energy demands resulting from the recent snowstorm and subzero temperatures. Power providers are permitted to take steps necessary to meet ongoing demands. At the same time, entities with an ability to generate electricity are asked to take actions that will ensure preservation of the electrical grid.

LINCOLN, NE – Today, Governor Jim Pillen joined state senators in introducing two bills aimed at pushing back against foreign adversarial influence in Nebraska.

LINCOLN, NE – Today, Governor Jim Pillen strapped on his sneakers and led a crowd of walkers through the State Capitol, as part of the annual Governor’s Wellness Walk. Participants included state senators and Nebraska Football Coach Matt Rhule. The event is organized by the Nebraska Sports Council, as part of the kickoff to its WellPower Movement – a free, online activity-tracking program.

LINCOLN, NE – Today, Governor Jim Pillen issued Executive Order 24-1 to provide an emergency waiver of federal hours of service requirements for fuel truck drivers, to prevent shortages. Nebraska is experiencing extreme cold temperatures, increasing electricity demand, which in turn increases pressure on power districts’ reserve fuel supplies. The order temporarily allows drivers to work extended hours to haul residential heating fuels and oils or fuel used to generate power for residential heat.

LINCOLN, NE – Today, Governor Jim Pillen announced the retirement of Chief Information Officer Ed Toner. His last day with the OCIO will be February 16.

LINCOLN, NE – Today, Governor Jim Pillen announced his appointment of Jacqueline Russell to the state’s Tax Equalization and Review Commission (TERC). Russell, who currently serves as the Adams County Assessor, will start Jan. 29.

LINCOLN, NE – This morning, Governor Jim Pillen and Omaha Mayor Jean Stothert announced two major investments in North Omaha. The State has awarded $89.2 million to the Omaha Economic Development Corporation to create a business park near Eppley Airfield. The State has also awarded $35 million to the City of Omaha to construct a multipurpose community center at Levi Carter Park, which overlooks Carter Lake in east Omaha. They were joined in today’s announcement by Nebraska Department of Economic Development (DED) Director K.C. Belitz, Omaha Chamber of Commerce CEO Heath Mello, Omaha Economic Development Corporation President Michael Maroney and Burlington Capital Vice President George Achola. 

LINCOLN, NE -- Today, Governor Jim Pillen called for a 40% reduction in state property taxes in 2024. He is asking the Nebraska Legislature as well as chambers of commerce to partner in achieving that goal, stating it is a necessity for all Nebraskans.
