LINCOLN, NE – Today, Governor Jim Pillen issued the following statement regarding the state of the special session convened to fix Nebraska’s spiraling property tax crisis:
LINCOLN, NE – Governor Jim Pillen and Lieutenant Governor Joe Kelly joined state senators from the Revenue Committee and leaders representing respective fire, law enforcement and criminal justice agencies in support of The Nebraska Plan to Cut Property Taxes. The plan creates an exception, so those agencies are not impacted by a hard cap on spending.
LINCOLN, NE – Governor Jim Pillen has announced an interim appointment for director of the Nebraska Department of Natural Resources. Jesse Bradley is currently deputy director for water management. He has been with DNR since 2006 and previously served as interim director for the agency in 2020.
LINCOLN, NE – A recently published independent analysis of The Nebraska Plan to Cut Property Taxes, highlights multiple benefits to taxpayers and the state, including fulfilling the state’s constitutional obligation for funding state education. The Nebraska Plan, unveiled two weeks ago by Governor Jim Pillen, has been incorporated into LB1, sponsored by Revenue Committee Chairwoman Lou Ann Linehan. A committee hearing on the bill was held this week.
LINCOLN, NE – Today, Governor Jim Pillen signed a proclamation declaring a state of emergency due to strong and dangerous storms that moved through central and eastern Nebraska on July 31 and Aug. 1. Damage resulted to private and public property in the following counties: Cass, Douglas, Lancaster, Sarpy, Saunders and Washington.

LINCOLN, NE – Today, Governor Jim Pillen testified before the Legislature’s Revenue Committee on LB1, the property tax reduction bill introduced on his behalf by Sen. Lou Ann Linehan, chair of the committee. In three years, this bill aims to slash property taxes by an average of 50 percent for Nebraskans, based on the comprehensive proposal dubbed The Nebraska Plan.
