LINCOLN, NE – Today, Governor Jim Pillen announced the resignation of State Fire Marshal Scott Cordes. Cordes, who was appointed by the Governor in January 2023, has accepted the role of city administrator in Norfolk. His last day with the state will be March 7.
Gov. Pillen Declares State of Emergency for Fires in Custer and Dawes Counties
LINCOLN, NE – Governor Jim Pillen has declared a state of emergency for fires that have been burning since earlier this week in two counties. The Custer Complex Fire started on Monday and now consists of three active fires. The Schaffer Road Fire started on Tuesday and is located southeast of Chadron. The fires have been fueled by a combination of high winds, low humidity and dry conditions.

Gov. Pillen Reacts to EPA Confirmation to Keep Date for Implementation of E15 Access
LINOLN, NE – Reassuring news this week for Nebraska motorists and corn growers. The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) has confirmed its intent to uphold the current April 28, 2025 implementation date for year-round access to E15. Nebraska is among eight states that had long been fighting a summertime ban on the higher ethanol blend. Last year, the EPA issued its final rule, a significant win for Nebraska and other ethanol-producing states.

Flags to Fly at Half-Staff on Feb. 27 Honoring State Trooper Kyle McAcy
LINCOLN, NE – Today, Governor Jim Pillen ordered that all U.S. and state flags be flown at half-staff on Thursday, Feb. 27, for the funeral of Nebraska State Patrol (NSP) Trooper Kyle McAcy. McAcy was killed in the line of duty on Feb. 17 while responding to the scene of a crash on I-80. Services will begin at 11 o’clock that morning at the Liberty First Credit Union Arena in Ralston. Flags should be flown at half-staff from sunrise until sunset that day.
