Part of the annual Annie E. Casey Foundation KIDS COUNT index, this ranking aims to identify and rank children's economic well-being across the United States. Using data from the U.S. Census Bureau's American Community Survey, the study scored all 50 states on metrics related to family poverty, employment, housing costs, and teen participation in school and work. States were then ranked based on the standardized scores.
