Dear Mr. President:

I join Nebraskans in expressing gratitude for the bold action you took to protect America and our allies from a nuclear Iran. The Islamic Republic is notorious as the world’s leading exporter of terrorism, and that regime’s proxies and puppets have the blood of more than a thousand Americans on their hands. After decades of inaction, you used the unparalleled strength of our Armed Forces to neutralize this threat, and I am confident that history will praise that decision.

In the immediate term, however, that action is not without a severe domestic cost, as you know. Because of Iran’s manipulation and control of the Strait of Hormuz—one of the world’s most significant energy transit corridors—fuel prices for hard-working American families have soared. Here in Nebraska, where we are proud stewards of some of the most productive grain regions on the planet, our farmers have been hit hard by these costs. On the eve of the harvest season, when tractors and semitrucks must consume vast quantities of diesel fuel to bring our crops to market to feed a hungry world, diesel prices have reached record highs, averaging $6.21 per gallon in Nebraska today. Those costs will not be borne by farmers alone, as they will ripple across the economy and compound the affordability crisis still lingering after the incompetence of the Biden years.

I urge you to take decisive action to provide immediate relief to our agricultural producers by temporarily suspending diesel exports to foreign countries. A modest 90-day pause on those exports will allow domestic diesel reserves to rebuild and instantly lower costs for consumers. America’s farmers will thank you for putting them first as we work through these market disruptions, and America’s families will see the effects of those lower prices at the grocery store.

On behalf of Nebraska’s farmers, thank you for your consideration of this request and for any other measures you can implement to deliver lower fuel prices. I stand ready to support your administration every step of the way in this effort.
