Governor Ricketts Announces Candidates for CEO of DHHS

Lincoln – Today, Governor Pete Ricketts announced three candidates for Chief Executive Officer of the Nebraska Department of Health and Human Services. Previously, Ricketts had announced a national search for a transformational leader for the department.

Potential candidates were identified with the help of Ford Webb Associates, a national firm with expertise in public and governmental sectors who previously assisted then Governor Bob Kerrey in a search for a director position in his cabinet.

An alphabetical list by last name of finalists with brief biographical information follows:

of Scottsdale, Arizona recently served as Director of the Arizona Department of Economic Security under Governor Jan Brewer.

David Newell

David Newell

of Omaha, Nebraska currently serves as President and CEO of Nebraska Families Collaborative, a non-profit child welfare corporation.

Courtney Phillips

Courtney Phillips

of Prairieville, Louisiana currently serves as Deputy Secretary of the Louisiana Department of Health and Hospitals under Governor Bobby Jindal.

 

Governor Ricketts interviewed Sydney Squier of Santa Fe, New Mexico for the position of CEO of DHHS, however, Ms. Squier is not being considered as a finalist for the position. Squier recently served as Cabinet Secretary of the New Mexico Human Services Department under Governor Susana Martinez.

Announcements about the division directors for the department will be made following the appointment of the new CEO of the department.
