Gov. Ricketts Slams Revenue Committee’s Plan as “Largest Tax Increase” in Nebraska History

LINCOLN – Today, Governor Pete Ricketts issued a statement following news that the Revenue Committee had unveiled a new plan stripping taxpayers of relief delivered through the Property Tax Credit Relief Fund, raising the state’s sales tax 14%, and slapping new taxes on key services including heating, air conditioning, and plumbing.

“LB 289 is on track to become the largest tax increase on working Nebraskans in the history of our state.  It’s a transfer of half a billion dollars from family budgets for government spending.  I am alarmed that Senators are even considering this, and I urge the Revenue Committee and the full Legislature to reject these tax increases.”
