Gov. Ricketts Signs Bill to Strengthen Laws Against Human Trafficking

Today, Governor Pete Ricketts signed LB294e to strengthen Nebraska’s laws again human trafficking. After giving the legislation his signature, Governor Ricketts and Attorney General Doug Peterson issued the following statements:

“I am proud to sign the Human Trafficking Victims Civil Rights Act today to help strengthen Nebraska’s human trafficking laws,” said Governor Ricketts. “This legislation provides additional recourse to trafficking victims, and allows them to seek civil remedy against their perpetrators. I applaud Attorney General Doug Peterson, Senator Jim Scheer, and the advocates who worked to make this legislation a reality, and we will all continue to look for new ways to combat this scourge on our society.”

“We are encouraged by the overwhelming support of the Legislature and the Governor in taking this significant step in moving forward against human trafficking,” said Attorney General Peterson. “These provisions will serve in protecting our vulnerable citizens.”
