Lincoln – Today, Governor Pete Ricketts announced the selection of Nicole B. Fox, a nutrition therapist specialist and medical nutrition instructor, from Downtown Omaha, to fill the District 7 legislative seat vacancy.

The Governor announced his appointment at a news conference this morning. Fox will be sworn in by Secretary of State John Gale later today in a private ceremony.

“I am honored to receive this appointment from Governor Ricketts,” said Nicole Fox of Omaha.  “I look forward to taking on the tough issues and working together with my fellow senators and the governor to find innovative ways to expand access to healthcare and increase access to educational opportunities for all Nebraska students.”

Fox, 40, works as a Nutrition Therapist Specialist at Nebraska Medicine in Omaha where she provides medical nutrition therapy to patients undergoing a variety of cancer treatments. She is also an Adjunct Instructor at the University of Nebraska Medical Center (UNMC) lecturing for several programs including Medical Nutrition Education, College of Medicine, College of Pharmacy, and the Physician Assistant Program.

Fox holds a Bachelor of Science in Food and Nutrition-Dietetics from Iowa State University.

Legislative District 7 includes a portion of southeastern Douglas County in Omaha. Fox’s appointment lasts through January 3, 2017, and she is eligible for election a 4-year term in November 2016 with the ability to serve up to two full terms. This appointment fills a vacancy created by State Senator Jeremy Nordquist’s resignation on July 1, 2015 to serve as Chief of Staff to U.S. Congressman Brad Ashford in Washington, D.C.
