LINCOLN – Today, Governor Pete Ricketts released the fifteenth episode of “The Nebraska Way” featuring entrepreneur and philanthropist Joe Ricketts.  During this episode, Joe discusses growing up in Nebraska, his career as an entrepreneur, and his new book The Harder You Work, The Luckier You Get.

Joe graduated from Creighton University in 1968 with a degree in economics.  In 1975, he co-founded First Omaha Securities, a retail securities brokerage firm in Omaha, Nebraska.  Joe recognized that featuring negotiated commissions would allow the firm to take advantage of the newly deregulated discount securities market.  Under Joe’s leadership, First Omaha Securities grew quickly and, through the use of innovative technology and marketing, evolved into TD Ameritrade.  Today, TD Ameritrade manages hundreds of billions of dollars in client assets and leads its competitors with hundreds of thousands of trades per day.

Since 2008, Joe has devoted himself to a variety of entrepreneurial ventures.  He has also actively engaged in philanthropy through Opportunity Education Foundation, The Cloisters on the Platte Foundation, The Ricketts Conservation Foundation, and The Ricketts Art Foundation.  This background comes from https://www.joericketts.com/ where more information about the guest can be found.
