Gov. Ricketts Continues Wellness Awards and Seeks Applications for 2015

Today, Gov. Pete Ricketts announced that applications for the 2015 Governor’s Wellness Awards are being accepted. The final deadline to apply for the award is June 30 by midnight.

“The Governor’s Wellness Award recognizes employers who offer comprehensive employee health and wellness programs,” said Gov. Ricketts. “Worksite wellness programs have proven to be effective at decreasing health care and workers’ compensation costs, improving employee engagement as well as workplace performance.”

Factors considered for the award include the level of support for the program within company leadership, assessment of employees’ needs, the design of the wellness plan, outcomes and benefits of the wellness plan, and policies supporting healthy behaviors.

“Wellness programs empower employees to make good decisions about their health,” said Dr. Joseph Acierno, Chief Medical Officer and Director of Public Health for the Nebraska Department of Health and Human Services. “They help people take action to avoid chronic illnesses and improve their quality of life.”

The Governor’s Wellness Award is administered by the Nebraska Safety Council/WorkWell. Businesses familiar with the process can apply online at https://www.nebraska.gov/wellness/. The application deadline is June 30 by midnight. For more information, interested businesses should contact Tonya Vyhlidal at 402-483-2511 or tvyhlidal@nesafetycouncil.org.
