Gov. Ricketts Appoints Ryan C. Carson to the District Court of the Ninth Judicial District

LINCOLN – Today, Governor Pete Ricketts appointed Ryan C. Carson of Gibbon to the District Court of the Ninth Judicial District. 

Carson, 43, is a Shareholder at Jacobsen, Orr, Lindstrom & Holbrook, P.C., L.L.O. in Kearney.  In this role, Carson has handled cases in a variety of practice areas, including employment, insurance defense, commercial, corporate, and others.  Carson also serves as outside general counsel to a variety of companies in Nebraska and surrounding states. 

Before his time with the Jacobsen Orr law firm, Carson was a Partner at Taylor Anderson, L.L.P. in Colorado, where he litigated hundreds of cases throughout the United States, including Nebraska.  He also previously served as a judicial law clerk for the Honorable Bobby R. Baldock with the United States Tenth Circuit Court of Appeals.  

Carson holds a Bachelor of Arts in political science from California State University and a Juris Doctor from the University of Notre Dame Law School.

Carson serves as Chair of the Practice and Procedure Committee with the Nebraska State Bar Association (NSBA) and is a member of the Rural Practice Initiative.  He also serves as the NSBA representative on the Nebraska Supreme Court’s Committee for Civil Justice Reform.  Carson serves on several non-profit boards, including Court Appointed Special Advocates (CASA) and Junior Achievement, and he is a graduate of Leadership Nebraska Class IX.

The vacancy is due to the retirement of Judge William T. Wright.

The primary place of office for the judicial vacancy is Kearney, Buffalo County, Nebraska.
