Gov. Ricketts Appoints Judge Stephanie Stacy to Supreme Court

LINCOLN – Today, Governor Pete Ricketts announced the appointment of Judge Stephanie F. Stacy to the Nebraska Supreme Court, First Judicial District. Currently, Judge Stacy serves as a District Court Judge in Lancaster County.

“Judge Stacy’s judicial and legal experience have served the State of Nebraska well,” said Governor Ricketts. “Her expertise and judicial temperament will continue to be an asset to the people of Nebraska and now also to our State’s Supreme Court.”

Prior to her service to the District Court, Judge Stacy was a partner at Baylor, Evnen, Curtiss, Grimit & Witt, LLP and Adjunct Faculty teaching Trial Advocacy and Pretrial Litigation at the University of Nebraska College of Law.

During her tenure on the District Court, Judge Stacy has handled a wide variety of cases including felony criminal cases, civil cases, domestic cases, appeals from County Court and Administrative Agencies, as well as lawsuits challenging the constitutionality of State of Nebraska statutes/regulations, election issues, and suits against the State and State Officials. Since February 2015, she has served as one of two judges who preside over the Lancaster County Adult Drug Court.

Judge Stacy holds a Bachelor of Science in Criminal Justice from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln and graduated with distinction from the University of Nebraska College of Law.

Over the course of her career as a lawyer, Judge Stacy has received the Exceptional Performance Citation from the Nebraska Defense Counsel Association. She has also been peer nominated to national honoraries including the American Board of Trial Advocates, International Association of Defense Counsel, and the Litigation Counsel of America.

The vacancy was created by the retirement of Justice Kenneth C. Stephan on July 1, 2015. This is Governor Ricketts’ first appointment to the Nebraska Supreme Court.
