Gov. Ricketts’ Martin Luther King Jr. Day Statement

LINCOLN – Today, Governor Pete Ricketts issued the following statement in observance of Martin Luther King Jr. Day, which is celebrated on January 15, 2018.

“Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. was a pioneer in the Civil Rights Movement who embodied the best of the American spirit.  The ideals Dr. King fought for and the sacrifices he made to advance them live on as an example to future generations of American people.  Dr. King’s leadership and perseverance brought our nation one large step closer to the realization of the self-evident truth ‘that all men are created equal, [and] that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights.’

“Susanne and I hope that everyone has a safe holiday weekend.  If you’re traveling, please remember to watch the weather conditions, buckle up, and drive safely.”

Governor Ricketts is scheduled to speak at a luncheon honoring Dr. King on Monday.
