Dundee has made an effort in recent years to engage parents and community members as volunteers and mentors. These volunteers provide extra supervision, help teachers prepare for class, and organize extracurricular events.
Governor Ricketts and Miss Nebraska Allison Tietjen stopped by to say hello to these Paddock Road Elementary students. Paddock Road has also developed a strategic plan to help measure their progress against goals they’ve set as a team. All of their certified staff are engaged in the process of developing this plan and common vision for their school.
Governor Ricketts had the opportunity to wish this young student a happy birthday on his visit to Paddock Road Elementary.
Miss Nebraska Allison Tietjen speaks to an assembly at Pender Elementary. Pender provides a multi-tiered system of support for their students. They feature an after school program which is offered free of charge, and they also work with the local faith community to offer backpacks of food each weekend to families who may be in need.
PENDER – Today, Governor Pete Ricketts toured Nebraska’s four 2017 Blue Ribbon schools with 2017 Miss Nebraska Allison Tietjen.
“These schools are setting the standard for other teams of students, parents, teachers, and administrators who want to achieve a high level of academic excellence,” said Governor Ricketts. “A great education can make all the difference in a student’s success now and for a lifetime.”
This week, the Governor is honoring Nebraska’s 2017 Blue Ribbon schools, which are helping students achieve a high level of academic excellence. Over the past few years, the Governor has worked to spotlight outstanding examples of educators and schools that are helping deliver the quality education students need to succeed. Earlier this year, he visited schools to honor teachers helping improve student achievement and celebrate National Teacher Day. The Governor and his Department of Economic Development have partnered with school districts across the state to provide quality programming exposing middle school students to opportunities in manufacturing and information technology fields. Additionally, he has worked to support initiatives in the Legislature that aim to improve student achievement.
“It is truly a privilege to congratulate these incredible educators and students in person,” said Miss Nebraska Allison Tietjen. “I am a proud product of Nebraska public schools as a graduate of Thayer Central. It is wonderful and inspiring to see our state continue to excel in education, no doubt producing our future leaders.”
Calvert Elementary in Auburn, Dundee Elementary and Paddock Road Elementary in Omaha, and Pender Elementary all received 2017 Blue Ribbon designations. Each school received their award for achieving reading and mathematics scores in the top 15 percent of all schools.
