(Lincoln, Neb.) Gov. Dave Heineman and First Lady Sally Ganem plan an Open House in celebration of the 55th anniversary of the Nebraska governor’s residence Friday, August 10th and Saturday, August 11th. To commemorate the anniversary, they will unveil the Nebraska Governor’s Residence Quilt. Nebraska’s First Lady Sally Ganem said, “Dave and I feel very blessed to have the opportunity to call this beautiful house our home. We’re pleased to be able to share it with the people who come through the door each and every week.” The quilt, “Meadow Lark Dance” will be presented to the people of Nebraska from all the members of the Nebraska State Quilt Guild. The quilt was designed by Shelly Burge, a native Nebraskan from Lincoln. “I have lived my life on the Great Plains in a rural area,” said Ms. Burge. “One of the first signs of spring I look for each year is the meadowlarks that sing in the fields around my home. Their distinctive call is easy to identify.” The Residence will be open Friday, with public tours from 12:00 – 3:00 p.m., including a display of inaugural gowns worn by Nebraska’s First Ladies. Kim Todd, Associate Professor and Extension Landscape Specialist, will offer a walk-through tour of the garden and a video of the remodel process will be shown. On Saturday, at 10:00 a.m. the Governor and First Lady will unveil the Nebraska Governor’s Residence Quilt. Tours will resume from 12:00 p.m. – 1:30 p.m. For a complete schedule of events, please visit the Governor’s Residence website at www.governorsresidence.nebraska.gov. |
