(Lincoln, Neb.) Gov. Dave Heineman today previewed the upcoming National Governors Association’s regional economic development summit on Growing State Economies to be held April 24 – 25 in Omaha.
Gov. Terry Branstad of Iowa and Gov. Rick Snyder of Michigan will attend the conference focusing on innovation and entrepreneurship, along with top state representatives and business leaders from Nebraska and surrounding states.
“I’m pleased to host the final Growing State Economies innovation and entrepreneurship summit in Nebraska and welcome fellow Governors, policymakers and business innovation leaders,” said Gov. Heineman. “Throughout the year at these regional summits, Governors have looked for the best strategies to strengthen state economic performance. Governors are working to advance business innovation, and to help the private sector succeed in creating new jobs opportunities for our citizens.”
As Chair of the National Governors Association, Gov. Heineman’s initiative, Growing State Economies, provides Governors and other state policymakers with policy options to foster job growth. An emphasis is placed on small businesses becoming fast-growing firms and encouraging policies that support growth.
Gov. Heineman, Gov. Branstad and Gov. Snyder will participate in the What States are Doing panel discussion. Another highlight of the upcoming Governor’s summit will be the keynote address, Engaging Universities in State Economic Development, delivered by the University of Nebraska President, J.B. Milliken.
The Omaha summit will be the fourth and final innovation and entrepreneur summit of Gov. Heineman’s term as Chair of the National Governors Association. The three previous regional summits were held in Connecticut, Washington and Tennessee. |
