Flags Ordered to Half-Staff in Honor
of Coretta Scott King

(Lincoln, NE) Gov. Dave Heineman, pursuant to a declaration issued today by President George W. Bush, has ordered all state and U.S. flags in Nebraska be flown at half-staff on Tuesday, Feb. 7, 2006, in honor of the life and contributions of Coretta Scott King. King, a leading civil rights activist, was the wife of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.

Gov. Heineman, traveling today in central Nebraska, said, "In many ways, Coretta Scott King meant as much to the civil rights movement as her husband, both by preserving his legacy and by forging her own. She was the 'First Lady' of American equality, and we would do well to remember her devotion to social justice."
