(Lincoln, NE) Gov. Dave Heineman announced today that public and private relief agencies have arranged a final services registration and processing effort for the evacuees of Hurricanes Katrina or Rita in Nebraska. The joint registration effort is Nov. 16-17 at the Salvation Army Lied Renaissance Center, 2424 Pratt St., in Omaha.
Representatives of federal, state, local and private agencies involved in evacuee aid will be on hand to assist storm survivors in registering for services. Parking is available in the lot north of the building, and the event will take place in the facility’s gymnasium from 9:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Wednesday, and from 9:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. on Thursday.
“It is important that we recognize the unique challenges people faced while relocating their families and offer them another opportunity to seek assistance and start new lives,” Gov. Heineman said. “This additional registration effort would be impossible without the work of our federal, local and private partners, and Nebraska is grateful.”
All evacuees that have relocated to the area are encouraged to attend, including those who arrived on Federal Emergency Management Agency-sponsored flights, evacuees who are case-managed and non-case-managed, as well as evacuees who relocated to Nebraska on their own. Metropolitan Area Transit will offer transportation for evacuees in hotels and Omaha Housing Authority (OHA) facilities. Walk-ins are also welcome.
Participating agencies include the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA), the Nebraska Emergency Management Agency (NEMA), the Nebraska Health and Human Services System, Douglas County Emergency Management, OHA, The Salvation Army, Goodwill, The American Red Cross and many more.
Evacuees with questions about the program should call Steve Lee, Douglas County Emergency Management Director, at (402) 444-5040, ext. 31. Questions may also be directed to J.J. Kuzma of The Salvation Army at (402) 898-5942.
