(Lincoln, NE)Fostering continued economic growth and helping workers improve their own marketability and skill sets are the focus of the 2005 Governor’s Summit on Workforce Development, Gov. Dave Heineman announced today. The Summit is scheduled for Nov. 9-10 at the Omaha DoubleTree Hotel, 1616 Dodge St.
“Our economy is beginning to take a turn for the better,” Gov. Heineman said. “We want to make sure that Nebraska’s hard-working families are prepared to take advantage of the good jobs we’re trying to grow.”
An array of national speakers and local experts will highlight the agenda, including Dr. Mae Jemison, the first African-American woman to enter outer space. She will speak about the importance of science, engineering and technology skills to career advancement and economic growth, and she will also discuss diversity in the workforce.
Other keynote speakers include Dr. Joseph Mancusi, who has taught thousands of CEOs, business leaders and entrepreneurs at every level to strengthen their organizations, and Bruce Tulgan, an advisor to business leaders throughout the world and an international expert on young people in the workplace.
The conference also features a joint session with Lt. Gov. Rick Sheehy, Nebraska’s Director of Homeland Security, and State Chief Medical Officer Dr. Joann Schaefer on public health preparedness in the workplace.
Additional speakers include Nebraska Commissioner of Labor Fernando Lecuona III, AFL-CIO Working for America Institute leader Nancy Mills and Festo Corporation CEO Hans-Joerg Zobel.
