Gov. Heineman Asks EPA to Allow
Sales of High-Sulfur Diesel

(Lincoln, NE) Gov. Dave Heineman sent a letter today to the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) requesting a regulation waiver that would allow the sale and use of higher-sulfur-content diesel fuel on Nebraska's roadways through the end of the year.

EPA had allowed the sales of higher-sulfur-content diesel fuel in Nebraska following Hurricanes Katrina and Rita. Those waivers have since expired. The Governor requested the new waiver to help offset diesel supply challenges across the state.

"Diesel fuel is too important to our farmers at harvest time and to the truckers delivering commerce across Nebraska to allow a bureaucratic hurdle to slow the delivery of fuel," Gov. Heineman said. "It is my hope that the EPA will grant this request expeditiously."
