(Lincoln, NE) Gov. Dave Heineman today announced his selections to serve in both new and vacant posts on the Environmental Quality Council. Additional representatives were needed to comply with changes to membership requirements as prescribed by LB 351, which the Legislature passed this year.
"This council is charged with helping our state set air, land and water quality standards," Gov. Heineman said. "Each member has an important role to play in ensuring the health and welfare of Nebraskans, and each takes the responsibility seriously."
LB 351 dictated that an additional member -- specifically a biologist -- be selected to serve on the council. The legislation also changed the Public-at-Large seat to one that is held by a minority representative. In addition to filling seats in accordance with LB 351, the Governor also sought applicants for other council vacancies.
The following are gubernatorial appointees to the Environmental Quality Council: Mark Czaplewski of Grand Island was selected due to his background in biology, Lawrence Bradley of Omaha serves as the minority representative, Joseph Citta, Jr., of Columbus was appointed as a representative of the power industry, Rodney Gangwish of Shelton serves as a representative of agricultural crop production, Michael Griffin of Crawford was appointed as a representative of heavy industry, and Ronald Zeiger of Syracuse serves as the Environmental Quality Council's municipal representative.
