Gov. Heineman Reminds Nebraskans to Fly Flags
at Half-Staff in Honor of Victims of
Hurricane Katrina & Chief Justice Rehnquist
(Lincoln, NE) Gov. Dave Heineman reminded Nebraskans to fly all U.S. and Nebraska state flags at half-staff today, Sept. 5 until Tuesday, Sept. 20, per presidential order in honor of the memory of the victims of last week’s hurricane and flood in the Gulf Coast. Flags will also be flown at half staff in memory of Chief Justice William H. Rehnquist.
Gov. Heineman said, “I’m asking all Nebraskans to remember the victims and the evacuees who have lost everything in the worst natural disaster in U.S. history. Our efforts to provide help are only just beginning, and I know Nebraskans will do all they can to provide relief and support for those now faced with challenge of rebuilding their lives.
“My thoughts and prayers are also with the family and many friends of Chief Justice Rehnquist. As we take time to remember his life and accomplishments, I know that his leadership and deep commitment to the ideals on which this country were founded won’t soon be forgotten.”
President George W. Bush signed proclamations on Sept. 4, 2005, ordering flags to be flown at half-staff nationwide.
