Gov. Heineman Seeks Applicants for
Broadband Services Task Force
(Lincoln, NE) Gov. Dave Heineman is seeking qualified candidates to serve on the state’s Broadband Services Task Force. The task force was created by LB 645, which was passed during this year’s legislative session.
The bill directs the task force to consider a range of issues including the fair and equitable requirements for regulation of broadband, Internet and telecommunications services, as they are provided by agencies or political subdivisions and public power suppliers, and advise state leaders on possible policy changes.
Gov. Heineman said, “I look forward to talking with those interested in serving on this task force as we consider our options for delivering the advanced communications technology in the future.”
LB 645 calls for six of the 18 seats on the task force to be appointed by the Governor. One member shall be appointed from each of Nebraska’s three congressional districts to represent consumers, and the remaining three seats will represent consumers at-large in the coming months. The task force will submit a report to the Governor and the Legislature, due by December 1, 2006.
Individuals interested in the serving on the Broadband Services Task Force should send a cover letter and resume, along with a completed application form to Whitney Bumgarner in the Governor’s Office, at P.O. Box 94848, Lincoln, NE 68509.
Applications will be accepted through the end of the day on Friday, July 1. Gov. Heineman may also seek out additional qualified candidates. The names of those submitting formal applications will be made public. Anyone with questions about the task force may call the Governor’s Office at (402) 471-2244.
