Gov. Heineman's Statement Following
the Funeral of Gov. Jim Exon

(Lincoln, NE) Gov. Dave Heineman this evening issued a statement following the Capitol funeral of former U.S. Senator and Nebraska Governor Jim Exon:

"I am pleased for all Nebraskans that we as a state were able to pay such fitting tribute to a man for whom service meant so much," Gov. Heineman said. "This was a beautiful event befitting a man who was larger-than-life and yet always at ease with everyday people. Governor and Senator Exon will be missed."

More than 500 people attended the service, including Gov. Heineman, First Lady Sally Ganem, former Governor and U.S. Senator Bob Kerrey, as well as a delegation of U.S. Senators led by Nebraskans, Sens. Chuck Hagel and Ben Nelson.

The Senate delegation included Sen. Harry Reid of Nevada, Sen. Carl Levin of Michigan, Sen. Daniel Akaka of Hawaii and Sen. Jeff Bingaman of New Mexico.
