Gov. Heineman’s Statement on U.S. Supreme
Court Beef Check-off Ruling

(Lincoln, NE) Gov. Dave Heineman today issued the following statement on the 6-3 ruling by the U.S. Supreme Court in support of the national beef check-off program:

“I am confident that with today’s ruling our state’s beef producers and others involved in beef production can move forward with certainty and work together to assert beef check-off funds for the benefit of the entire industry. Beef is too important to our state to allow this dispute to derail years of positive efforts on behalf of our farmers and ranchers.”

Greg Ibach, incoming director of the Nebraska Department of Agriculture, said, “I am aware that some producers are unsupportive of check-off programs. However, I have seen the positive effects of the beef check-off firsthand. Market access and consumer-oriented research are just two of the many benefits for Nebraska’s producers. Today’s ruling allows this important work to continue.”
