Gov. Heineman’s Statement on BRAC
Announcement Effects on Nebraska

(Lincoln, NE) Gov. Dave Heineman issued the following statement about plans at the federal level to consolidate military operations, which could result in the loss of 213 jobs in Nebraska:

“While I am saddened to lose any of our military or support personnel, I am pleased to see that our National Guard units were spared,” Gov. Heineman said. “At a time when our citizen-soldiers have been called to action, it is gratifying to see that our nation’s leaders recognize the importance of their continued commitment and sacrifice.”

“The Reserve Centers in central Nebraska represent a significant job loss that our communities would feel, as would the jobs recommended for reduction at Offutt. But our state received encouraging news when compared to job losses in the thousands for other states.”
