Gov. Heineman’s Statement on Ruling about
State Constitutional Provision on Marriage

(Lincoln, NE) Gov. Dave Heineman today issued the following statement about U.S. District Court Judge Joseph Bataillon’s ruling that an amendment in the Nebraska Constitution prohibiting same-sex marriage is unconstitutional:

“I am extremely frustrated for Nebraskans that a federal judge has seen fit to overturn an overwhelming vote in support of marriage between a man and a woman,” Gov. Heineman said. “I am pleased the Attorney General is appealing this decision, and I am hopeful that this unfortunate ruling will be overturned.”
