Gov. Heineman Seeks Applicants for
Environmental Quality Council
(Lincoln, NE) Gov. Dave Heineman is seeking qualified candidates to serve on the Environmental Quality Council in compliance with changes to membership requirements as prescribed by LB 351, which was recently passed by the Legislature.
“This council is charged with setting air, land and water quality standards for our state,” Gov. Heineman said. “Each member has an important role to play in protecting the health and welfare of Nebraskans, and I look forward to meeting with those interested in serving on their behalf.”
LB 351 dictates that an additional member be selected to serve on this 16-person council, and that member must be a biologist. The legislation also changes the Public-at-Large seat to a minority representative.
In addition to filling seats in accordance with LB 351, the Governor is also seeking applicants for two vacancies on the council. One representative must come from municipal government and the other from heavy industry. Gov. Heineman may also seek out additional qualified candidates.
Individuals interested in applying for one of the four positions available on the Environmental Quality Council should send a cover letter and resume, along with a completed application form, to Whitney Bumgarner in the Governor’s Office, at P.O. Box 94848, Lincoln, NE 68509. The application form can be found on the Governor’s Web site at www.gov.state.ne.us/bc/board_comm.html, or requested by calling the Governor’s Office. Applications will be accepted through the end of the day on Monday, May 23.
The names of those submitting formal applications will be made public. Anyone with questions about serving on the Environmental Quality Council may call the Governor’s Office at (402) 471-2244.
