Gov. Heineman Comments on Forecasting Board’s Projections

(Lincoln, NE) Gov. Dave Heineman today called for careful prioritization of spending following the Nebraska State Forecasting Board release of its revised revenue projections for this fiscal year and the following biennium.

Total state general fund net receipts for the current fiscal year (2004-2005) are now projected at $2.989 billion, a $40 million increase over previous estimates and general fund estimates for fiscal year 2005-06 and 2006-07 were revised up by $20 million for each year. The revised forecast for these three years combined represents an increase of $80 million in revenue.

Gov. Heineman said, “This is good news for our state and for Nebraska’s economy, but it does not change the need for prioritized spending decisions. We need to keep the future of Nebraska in mind. I think it is imperative that we view all spending from the long-range perspective and give careful consideration to our state’s financial outlook in the years ahead.”
