Gov. Heineman Selects Candidate to Fill
District 14 State Senate Slot

(Lincoln, NE) Gov. Dave Heineman today announced Tim Gay of Papillion as his selection for the State Senate slot to be filled after Sen. Nancy Thompson of LaVista resigns her seat following the session. Thompson has announced that she will resign her seat in the Legislature to become executive director of Big Brothers Big Sisters of the Midlands.

Gay, 40, a 1987 graduate of the University of Nebraska-Lincoln, is currently serving as vice chairman of the Sarpy County Board. He has twice served as its chairman and served as president of the Southeast District of the Nebraska Association of County Officials.

“I am impressed with Tim Gay’s elective experience and his business background,” Gov. Heineman said. “He had the support of many people in Sarpy County, and I am confident he can perform as well at the state level as he has in local government.”

Gay works as an investment advisor and manager at American National Bank in Papillion, having also worked as a grain merchandiser at Switzer Trading Co. in Omaha and as a commodity futures broker at Commodity Traders Inc. in Omaha.

He and his wife, Tonee Gay, live in Papillion. They have three children.

“I thought that it was an opportunity to use my talents to serve, and I think I can help make the state better in that capacity,” Tim Gay said. “I’m honored to be chosen by the governor, and I will approach issues with an open mind and to the best of my abilities.”

A total of 13 people applied for the seat, and the Governor picked six finalists. Each lives within the boundaries of District 14, located in northern Sarpy County. No formal appointment to the Senate can be made until the seat is formally vacated.

Gov. Heineman said, “I decided to make my choice public so Mr. Gay could observe the rest of the Legislative session and follow the important issues of the day. I know his work ethic, and I believe the people of Sarpy County will appreciate having him in Lincoln.”
