Governor Heineman Announces New Communications Director

(Lincoln, NE) Gov. Dave Heineman announced today that Aaron Sanderford, of Lincoln, will join the Governor’s Office as communications director on March 1.

Gov. Heineman said, “I am pleased to welcome Aaron Sanderford to my staff. He brings important experience and plenty of enthusiasm to the post. Aaron’s experience as a journalist helps him to understand the importance of being responsive to citizens, which is very important to me. He will do a great job coordinating and directing our communications.”

Sanderford, 27, joins the Governor’s Office after more than six years at the Lincoln Journal Star. Most recently, he worked as night city editor. In addition to his editing duties, Sanderford has reported on business, government, crime, courts, prisons, sports, and entertainment. His journalism background also includes experience with the Lexington (Kentucky) Herald-Leader, the Los Angeles Times, and as a stringer for the Associated Press.

Sanderford said, “I could not turn down the opportunity to work for a man with the character and integrity of Governor Dave Heineman. While I have enjoyed reporting and editing the news, I am excited to serve Nebraskans in another way.”

Sanderford, a Louisburg, N.C. native, earned a bachelor of arts in political science from the University of Kentucky, having studied print journalism at Western Kentucky University. He is pursuing a master of arts in journalism at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln. He and his wife, Amy, live in Lincoln.

Sanderford’s salary will be $61,000.
