Gov. Heineman Awards $254,000 in
Funding to
Cheyenne County Business Venture
(Lincoln, NE) Gov. Dave Heineman today awarded Cheyenne County a $254,000 Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) to help Commercial Resins Company, Inc. expand to Sidney, Neb. The project is expected to create 15 full-time jobs.
“I am very pleased to partner with Cheyenne County to bring new jobs to the Sidney area,” Gov. Heineman said. “When I met with local leaders in western Nebraska last week, economic development was identified as a top priority. I couldn’t agree more and that’s part of the reason I am thrilled to make this announcement. I will work hard to ensure this is the first of many such announcements regarding economic expansion during my administration.”
Cheyenne County officials will lend the company $250,000 in federal funds to purchase equipment and make improvements on a 45,000 sq. foot warehouse northwest of Sidney. The remaining $4,000 will be available to Cheyenne County for administrative-related expenses.
American Bank and Trust Company of Tulsa, and Commercial Resins Company, Inc., will invest more than $1 million, bringing the total project investment to more than $1.3 million. Cooperation from Sidney Warehousing & Industrial Sites, Adams and Son Trucking, the Cheyenne County Commissioners, and Sidney/Cheyenne County Economic Development
Ron Carlson Jr., president of Commercial Resins’ cited several factors in the company’s decision to locate in Cheyenne County including the opportunity to be in close proximity to current customers and two rail lines, as well as the availability of a facility and a hardworking labor force. The Nebraska facility will apply exterior and interior epoxy coatings to steel piping, which is sold to natural gas and oil suppliers in the Western Mountain and Great Plains regions of the U.S.
The project funding is part of a program administered by the Nebraska Department of Economic Development that assists with the development of businesses and communities throughout the state. Federal funds are made available to Nebraska from the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development’s CDBG program.
